Posted On: 10/10/2021 I cannot recommend Dr. Cristoforo and the whole team at Dental Implant and Periodontal highly enough! Let's all be real...dental surgery is not a fun thing. I was referred here by my dentist in Sun Prairie. They told me it's not the closest to my home, but the drive is definitely worth it to get the best. I totally agree that the drive was worth it! I've had two hip surgeries in the past year and have delivered four children, so I'm familiar with surgeons, surgical procedures and pain. Dr. Cristoforo was friendly, professional, efficient and took the time to make me feel comfortable with the procedure before, during and after the surgery. I had to have my gums replaced in two different places. One location was a good candidate for cadaver tissue, but the other required tissue from the roof of my mouth. In both situations, the most uncomfortable part was the initial shots to numb the areas. I've had cavities filled before, so I knew what to expect from that process and Dr. Cristoforo did a great job making that as pleasant as possible. The actual surgery to remove the tissue and sew the new gums on was quick and painless. Recovery has been pretty easy. Eating was a bit tricky the first couple days while things were touchy and swollen but each day it got better. I felt very supported during recovery by the checkup appointments and also by the information provided for home care. The nurses and office staff were all very helpful and friendly as well. They were careful to help me make appointments that worked with my schedule. During the surgery the nurse was very efficient and worked smoothly with Dr. Cristoforo. You can feel the level of comradery and respect while you are there watching them work together. I will most likely have to have another gum surgery in a different location in the next couple years. I will for sure be heading right back to Dr. Cristoforo and his staff when that time comes! Pamela S

Can I give zero stars?

I had a gum transplant surgery with Dr. Cristoforo in spring of 2021. Being a surgical nurse for 15 years and having gone through completely natural, un-medicated childbirth, I think I have both a good idea how these procedures should go, as well as having a fairly high pain tolerance.

I was told I 'wouldn't feel a thing' during my 1.5 hour gum transplant by this joker that was performed with local anesthetic only. After about 30 minutes I could start to feel; pulling, scraping and sewing OF MY MOUTH and alerted Dr. Cristoforo who said 'we were almost done'. Well, that was not the case and I was in horrible pain and swallowing my blood for the next hour during which my cries of pain were totally ignored. Not to mention the fact I am claustrophobic and felt suffocated by his abdomen pressing into my face the entire time.

The comedy of errors that came after the procedure with their 'aftercare' was a joke and far too expansive to share here. No concern was given to the pain I was in after the procedure or that I could literally not eat normally for over a month. When he removed the sutures on the roof of my mouth, he clipped one end and ripped them out in one fell swoop as fast as he could, which felt like I was branded by a hot iron. I have never seen such callousness during a suture removal in my 15 years of surgical experience. That area is still sensitive with nerve damage to this day. He seemed to take joy in inflicting pain and being rough any way possible. I was never asked during my follow up 'how are things going?' When I shared how I was struggling with pain and unable to eat, it went on deaf ears and there was no response, similar as how it occurred during my procedure.

The fine conclusion to this horrible procedural process is that the transplant he performed did not increase the gum thickness hardly at all and it will likely need to be done again.

My dentist who referred me here has been told the details of my procedure and has ceased referring for the reasons I described.

What I can also note is that I have had another area of my gums done by a different periodontist in Madison and have had amazing results with NONE of these issues and I would love to share my recommendation to this provider for anyone reading this.

Posted On: 08/25/2021 So had first part of procedure done of tooth extraction and bone grafting done a while ago, which went so smooth. I was so impressed with how Dr. Joe Cristoforo was easy going and amazing during that procedure, I healed up great, move forward after I healed and 3 implants put in on Monday. Dr. Joe Cristoforo was amazing again!! I felt nothing but the “poke” of needle for novacaine, literally no pain during & he would ask me if I was doing ok, and honestly the procedure again was very intimidating and scary, but it went awesome and the only pain med I needed was Advil. I would recommend Dr.Joe and his staff over and over!! Denise D
